Subject: Testifying skills for the Forensic Accountant

 

Are you apprehensive about testifying as an Expert Witness? Do you want to become qualified to testify in the future? Are you fearful of being cross-examined by a hostile attorney? Is your background sufficient to qualify you as an expert? Do you have the right combination of skill, personality, drive, and confidence? Dr. Kreuter will walk you through case examples of what it is like being in the proverbial “hot seat”, as well as provide helpful guidance on ways to fully prepare a case to ensure a smooth testifying experience. Included will be a thorough discussion of the psychological aspects of being a witness and suggestions for how to handle the various styles of cross-examining attorneys, the pressure if your client is present, and unforeseen issues as they arise.


Instructor Eric A. Kreuter is a partner with Marks Paneth LLP and is based in the New York and Westchester offices. He handles litigation support and forensic investigation engagements for a wide range of clientele. His main testifying experience is in calculating economic damages. He has testified in federal and state court as well as arbitration cases. He was a mediator in one case. He has also testified at Grand Jury in a criminal case involving embezzlement. Dr. Kreuter has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Accounting) as well as a masters’ degree in Industrial Psychology and a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology. He has authored 13 books, numerous book chapters and articles on topics, including testifying at deposition. Dr. Kreuter is an adjunct professor at Manhattanville College where he teaches forensic accounting in the masters’ program in finance.
